Hi, I'm
Amber Acosta

a Canadian author-illustrator living in France.

say hi!

I'm happiest in the act of making, finding a little magic in ordinary days, inside the house and out in the world. I'm currently seeking representation.

Thanks for stopping by!

Max holds a sword, ready for battle, beside Myrtle the cat in a dark winter forest lit by moonlight, as the forest spirits awaken and watch from the trees. Illustration by Amber Acosta.
Milly walks along the seaside with her twins, a boy and a girl, as three seagulls fly overhead. Three little rocky islands and a boat sit out on the water, shells and wisps of grass line the shore, and a crescent moon shines in the middle of the day.
A bathroom scene. Mom is reading at the bathroom sink, while two sisters are taking a bubble bath. There are clothing on the floor, two rubber ducks in the bathtub, and hair ties, pins and a hair brush around the sink.
Seen through a child's eyes, one hand grips the bedsheets while the other holds a flashlight. Where the beam falls, the bedroom glows in colour, while everything else stays black and white and three unseen ghosts lurk around the bed. Illustration by
A little girl cries in dismay while playing in the rain, holding her teddy bear's torn-off arm as Teddy lies in a puddle, watched by a squirrel in a tree and a cat in a nearby window. Illustration by Amber Acosta.
Seen from outside looking in through a window, a mother mends Teddy's arm while the little girl waits beside her in the cozy house. Illustration by Amber Acosta.
The little girl snuggles her mended teddy bear in a comfy chair as the same cat from the window gets ready to jump up and join them. Illustration by Amber Acosta.
Max floats in a little boat on a puddle that has become his ocean, with imaginary fish swimming all around, as Myrtle the cat comes to meet him for the first time in a flower-filled meadow with trees and mountains beyond. Illustration by Amber Acosta
Maisy the pig looks very embarrassed after a baking disaster, with flour spilled everywhere and broken eggshells on the counter and in the mixing bowl. Illustration by Amber Acosta.
A spot illustration of a little girl in a raincoat sitting on a rug, holding a balloon with a big smile, her rain boots off beside her. Illustration by Amber Acosta.
A girl sits on top of a book shelf peacefully reading her books with fireflies lighting her pages. The book eating monster eats all the books below. The bookshelf is empty, books are on the floor and papers fly in the air.
In shades of blue, a young girl snorkels among fish with sunlight shining through the water behind her, as a big tail curls away below, its hidden owner seeming to look up at her. Could it be a mermaid? Illustration by Amber Acosta.
A woman washes dishes at the sink while her freshly baked cake sits on the kitchen island behind her, and her dog rests his head on the table, hoping for a sneaky nibble. Illustration by Amber Acosta.
Part of Olive's bedroom has turned into a forest, where plush toys have come to life around a campfire, and smoke drifts up through a big hole in the ceiling toward the moon and stars. Illustration by Amber Acosta.
A little girl chases two chickens through a grassy field, with a little farmhouse and a fence in the background. Illustration by Amber Acosta.
A woman and child follow glowing lights through a village and into the rolling hills of the countryside. There are others following as well. A dog, cat and cows watch as they pass.
